Favorite day...

This is not a photo of a cake I made, but rather a photo of a cake my husband made. He made it all on his own and surprised me with it today. It's meant to be a mini replica of this cake

our wedding cake.

Gosh I sure do love that sentimental, romantic, cake baking dude!

The Naked Cake....

OK ...OK....so the proper name for this little beauty is Victorian Sponge Cake
But my husband called it the naked cake (due to the lack of frosting of course)
and I fancy that name more!
So let it be know throughout the land, that I Julie Herbert do now declare this cake to be hence called
The Naked Cake
Thus I have spoken, and so it must be!

But seriously, just look at this cake
EEEK!!!!
I am in LOVE  with it

Now will someone out there in blog land please get married and please ask for this cake so I can make another one!
Pleeeease.......

It's always Sunny

Here is a cake I did just this week. Sunny is an old friend, so when she asked me to make her wedding cake I was thrilled, honored, and excited! The cake was inspired from her invitation. Take a look.

I just love these colors! Both Sunny and the reception were beautiful, so stay tuned for other fun photos of that night.

My very first real wedding cake

was for my best friend, Heather, back in 2006. She wanted an all real four tier cake with fresh flowers on it. I remember being so nervous doing this cake, thoughts of ruining my friends big bay would flash through my head. Not to mention I was actually still in culinary school, so that added to the pressure as well. But in the end, and being my first cake with out the help of my chefs over my shoulders, I was very well pleased. And so was Heather, WOOHOO!

How GORGEOUS is she!

My Own Cake

For those of you who don't know, I was just recently married. In fact as of today it has been 2 months and 14 days, but who is counting right :) In all the hustle and bustle of wedding planning the question of who was going to make my cake would always arise. In the past 2 years I had made three wedding cakes for three of my siblings, but now that it was my turn I really hadn't given much thought to my own cake. Surprising I know! After finally deciding that yes, I did want to make my own cake, I pretty much put that thought on the back burner. Until about three weeks before the wedding. Yikes! I guess I am a procrastinator. But to tell you the truth, I didn't really know how I wanted my cake to look. But this is what I did know: I wanted it to be a medium sized cake, I wanted to use real butter cream frosting, I wanted it to be simple yet elegant, and I wanted to use my Great Grandmother's cake stand that had been given to me. So with that in mind, here is the final result.
