Happy April + Custom Smash Cake Candles

Am I the only one who's having a hard time believing that it's already April? April!
Good grief this year is flying by.

I do love this time of year. Being from AZ, it's the time where we  try to go outside as much as possible, bask in the sweet breeze, and pray that this weather will last just a bit longer :)

How was everyone's Easter weekend? Ours was filled with church, good food, family, and our friends who were visiting from Switzerland. Having them stay with us was pure joy..they were the best house guests! But more on them later :)

Let me show you what I have been working on...

Custom smash cake candles!

This idea had been floating around my brain for about a year before I actually did it. I don't know why it took me so long to bring it to life.

I got the idea after I made a smash cake for my friends sweet little boy. I put a number '1' on top that matched the cake perfectly, but it wasn't a candle... so a number '1' candle was placed on top so that her son could blow it out. With two numbers on top, it almost look as if it were an eleven! Now it was obvious that her son was not indeed eleven, but it still got the rusty wheels in my brain turning.

You can buy number candles at the store, but you can't always get them in the color that you desire. Plus what if you were having a themed party and wanting everything to match!

So this is how the idea was born.

With themed parties and smash cakes being all the rage, I thought having a custom candle would be perfect. The possibilities are endless really. And now they are available for purchase in the shop.

So excited to offer these now!

Wishing you all a happy and wonderful April

Cheers.

Rapunzel Rapunzel.....

(all photos via Jerry Watson)

I made this cake about two months ago for the daughter of a sweet friend. Her husband who is a great photographer captured these images and my friend was nice enough to send them to me. I just swoon over beautiful photos don't you! Someday I hope to be able to photograph my own work in such a way. On a side note, I also received a thank you card expressing how much the little girl loved the cake, and how it was all she could talk about for days. It was the cutest and sweetest thing ever, and made me just so happy. And that is why kids cakes are my favorites!

Dog Cake

This was the first dog themed cake that I've ever done, and I loved it! That cute little doggy up top was so fun to make and turned out so cute that I almost didn't want to give him away. I never should have named him *sigh* it does create attachment. But I know he went to a good home and made a little girl very happy, so all is well ;)
The flavor for the top cake is red velvet and the bottom layer is chocolate. There was absolutely no filling on either of these cakes. That was also a first! No one has ever requested a no filling cake before.

Batman Cake for Lovers

This was a birthday cake that my dear friend ordered for her batman loving husband. They had their first kiss last year on his birthday, so this year she had an ongoing theme of kisses throughout his special day. She also wanted to included a kiss on the cake. I loved the idea!

The cake is my favorite chocolate root beer recipe. Yep, I did say root beer. Sadly though, you can't taste the root beer in the finished cake. It does however make for the most delicious moist cake ever! The filling was butter cream peanut butter, another favorite :)

A Salute To The Stache.

Recently a dear friend of mine just celebrated her birthday. I along with another friend put ourselves in charge of giving her the best party EVER! In order to do this we decided to give it a theme, but not just any theme, we new it had to be something that she loved more than anything! And that something is MUSTACHES! Yes you heard that right. My friend loves the stache, as strange as that may seem.
