This is such a fun way to create custom toppers for Valentines Day, or any occasion really. I've used this technique several times, and have decided to to a little demo to show you just how easy it is!
Supplies
- Fondant/ gumpaste circles
- Edible markers
- Valentine's Day stamps, or any stamps of choice
Roll out your gumpaste or fondant. When using fondant I always knead in a little tylose powder, it's a bonding agent that basically turns fondant into gumpaste, allowing it to dry faster. Use a round cutter to cut out circles in the desired size you will need to fit your stamp. It's very important to make sure that the fondant circles are completely dried/hard before proceeding to the next step. I usually wait a day.
The stamps that I used were purchased at Michaels. They have a dollar bin just full of stamps, and I am constantly rummaging through it. If you already have a stamp that you would like to use, make sure that it has been completely washed of all ink that may be on it. You want to keep your product food safe! Use your edible markers, and color in the stamp. You want to make sure to work quickly so that the edible ink won't dry out.
Once finished, stamp your fondant circle just as you would any other stamped surface. The fondant circle will stick to the stamp, which is no problem at all. Just gently pull the circle back, and it will come right off! Your stamp may not be perfect but to me that is half the appeal of it. And that's it! You are left with an adorable topper that is completely safe and edible.
Oh my gosh! YOu're so creative. I love owls & these are the most adorable things I've ever seen!
